Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling, the former Manchester City forward now playing for Chelsea, faced a terrifying ordeal on Saturday night when masked intruders broke into his home. The 30-year-old acted swiftly to protect his family as the incident unfolded while he was preparing to watch Chelsea’s match against Wolves.
A source told the Mirror: “He grabbed a knife out of a block in the kitchen and went to confront the intruders. It was acting on pure adrenaline but it worked. There was a group of them upstairs in masks and they were obviously looking around for any valuables yet again. But this time they made off when they realised that Raheem was at home and he confronted them.”
A spokesperson for Sterling confirmed: “We can confirm that Raheem Sterling was the victim of a home break-in this weekend. We can also confirm that he and his children were present at home at the time. Whilst the ultimate violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful to be able to confirm that he and his loved ones are all safe.”
The break-in occurred between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm, with approximately five individuals entering the property. Sterling, who was not involved in the first-team game, was at home, which may have thwarted the intruders’ plans. It is believed the burglars assumed he would be at Stamford Bridge for the fixture.
This incident is not the first time Sterling’s home has been targeted. In December 2022, a burglary at his Oxshott, Leatherhead residence resulted in the theft of jewellery and watches valued at approximately £300,000. Sterling was away at the World Cup at the time, and his family was not present. The police estimated that items worth around £1,139,000 were stolen during a series of crimes between October 2022 and March 2023.
Sterling’s previous residence in Goostrey, Cheshire, was also targeted by burglars in 2018 when he played for Manchester City. However, the intruders were forced to flee when the alarm system was triggered.
Chelsea is aware of the recent incident and is providing support to Sterling and his family. Despite the ordeal, Sterling and his loved ones are safe, although the experience has left him shaken and concerned for his children’s wellbeing.
