Raheem Sterling, the Chelsea forward, found himself in a tense situation over the weekend when a gang of masked burglars broke into his Berkshire home. The incident occurred while Sterling was preparing to watch Chelsea’s match against Wolves, with the intruders forcing entry into the upper floor of his residence. Despite the frightening circumstances, Sterling acted swiftly to ensure the safety of his family before confronting the burglars, who fled the scene empty-handed.
A source told the Mirror: “He grabbed a knife out of a block in the kitchen and went to confront the intruders. It was acting on pure adrenaline but it worked. There was a group of them upstairs in masks and they were obviously looking around for any valuables yet again. But this time they made off when they realised that Raheem was at home and he confronted them.”
His spokesperson confirmed: “We can confirm that Raheem Sterling was the victim of a home break-in this weekend. We can also confirm that he and his children were present at home at the time. Whilst the ultimate violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful to be able to confirm that he and his loved ones are all safe.”
The break-in took place between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm, just an hour before Chelsea’s scheduled kick-off at Stamford Bridge. Police speculate that the burglars assumed Sterling would be at the match, making his home an easy target. Fortunately, Sterling’s quick thinking and bravery ensured that the situation was resolved without any harm to his family.
This incident is not the first time Sterling has been targeted by burglars. His previous residence in Goostrey, Cheshire, was also a target in 2018, though the burglars fled when the alarm was triggered. Additionally, a previous burglary at his home resulted in the theft of jewellery and watches valued at approximately £300,000. Investigators have noted a pattern in these crimes, with items worth around £1,139,000 stolen from Sterling’s properties between October 2022 and March 2023.
The recent incident has understandably left Sterling “shaken” and concerned for the wellbeing of his children. Despite the ordeal, his decisive actions during the break-in highlight his courage and commitment to his family’s safety.
