Pep Guardiola
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed confidence in his squad’s depth as they prepare to face Liverpool, highlighting the improvements made since last season’s injury struggles. With Arsenal also in the title race, Guardiola emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and utilizing the team’s strengthened bench.
Pep Guardiola said: “If you see the bench now, we have weapons to change the dynamic and change systems. All I ask is for them to be ready. The guys on the bench from minute one have to feel they are playing the game and be ready because today from the bench you can have a huge impact. Last season we didn’t have that.”
Guardiola continued: “I think the feeling is better but we have to prove it again. The last two victories helped us again. After the defeat in Villa, Swansea helped us again in the way we played. We showed many good things in that game, attacking a low block – especially in the second half – and then Bournemouth and Dortmund helped us a lot. We know the rival that we have. I saw the game against Madrid, the quality that [Liverpool] have in all positions is outstanding. It’s a top, top team but we are with our people.”
He added: “The momentum is with the Gunners – especially given their two biggest rivals play each other this weekend – but Guardiola’s team have history of reeling them in over the course of a long season. If they continue in that way and don’t concede goals it will be almost impossible, but you always expect you will be better and they can drop points. All we can do is win our games and be close. After the process to rebuild the club and rebuild the team, being there for the last two or three years and going to the market for many many years, they are there. Of course, it is exceptional what they are doing already for two or three seasons. It looks like every time it is closer and closer but we are in early November and nobody can win the title then. You can lose it, but you cannot win it.”
Manchester City has seen a significant turnaround this season after a challenging start, where they found themselves trailing behind an in-form Arne Slot side. The team’s resurgence has been bolstered by key victories and a more robust squad, allowing Guardiola to make tactical changes as needed. This adaptability is crucial as they aim to capitalize on Liverpool’s recent dip in form and extend their lead in the league standings.
The upcoming clash against Liverpool is pivotal for City, not only to assert their dominance but also to keep pace with Arsenal, who have shown formidable form this season. Guardiola’s acknowledgment of Arsenal’s momentum underscores the competitive nature of this year’s title race. However, he remains optimistic about City’s prospects, emphasizing that the title is far from decided in November.
As City prepares to host Liverpool, the focus will be on leveraging home advantage and the depth of their squad to secure a crucial win. With Erling Haaland’s impressive start to the season, City fans will be hopeful that their team can continue their ascent and challenge for the Premier League crown.
