Nick Woltemades
Newcastle United’s recent acquisition, Nick Woltemade, has made a significant impact since joining the club from Stuttgart in August. The 23-year-old forward scored his sixth goal in just 11 appearances, helping Newcastle secure a spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for the fourth consecutive season. Woltemade’s arrival was met with high expectations, as he was tasked with replacing Alexander Isak, who moved to Liverpool. However, the German has seamlessly integrated into the team, making it seem as if the Magpies have not missed Isak at all.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “We shouldn’t fulfill every demand to make someone happy, especially the financiers at VfB Stuttgart. I can only congratulate those in Stuttgart for finding – I’ll use quotation marks here – an idiot who paid that much money. Because we certainly wouldn’t have done that in Munich.”
Despite criticism from Bayern Munich’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who claimed that Newcastle overpaid for the former Werder Bremen player, Woltemade has consistently proven his worth. His market value has skyrocketed from £6.95 million to £56.49 million since the start of 2025, marking the third-largest increase in world football, according to SportingPedia.
Les Ferdinand said: “They needed to bring a centre forward in, they have done that. What is pleasing to see is that normally managers would rest players like this in a game like this, but Eddie has gone, ‘no leave him in the team’. From a centre forwards point of view that is great to see, because so many times you seem them scoring goals…”
Eddie Howe said: “Delighted that everyone has taken to him, his personality, what he brings to the team, really important goal for him and the team today. We’re still finding the best ways to use him and his game can only get better from here.”
Woltemade’s performance against Tottenham further highlighted his growing influence at Newcastle. Les Ferdinand praised the decision to keep him in the starting lineup, emphasizing the importance of his role in the team. Manager Eddie Howe also expressed his satisfaction with Woltemade’s integration, noting the player’s positive impact on the squad and his potential for further development.
As Newcastle United continue their pursuit of silverware, Woltemade’s contributions will be crucial. His ability to adapt quickly and deliver under pressure has not only silenced doubters but also positioned him as a key figure in the club’s ambitions. With the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on the horizon, fans will be eager to see how Woltemade continues to evolve and contribute to the Magpies’ success
