Alejandro Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho, the Argentine international, made headlines with his transfer from Manchester United’s Old Trafford to Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge in a deal valued at £40 million in August. Despite scoring his first goal for Chelsea, the forward’s efforts were not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat against newly-promoted Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. With over 100 senior appearances to his name, Garnacho aims to establish himself as a pivotal figure in Chelsea’s quest for consistent Champions League football and a strong Premier League challenge. His decision to leave Manchester United was influenced by a call with Chelsea’s management, which convinced him that the move was ideal for his career progression.
Alejandro Garnacho said: “Obviously, in my last season at United, with the new manager, there were a lot of changes in the situation at the club and it was a bit difficult. I still played a lot of games last season, mainly from the start or sometimes from the bench. But when I spoke with this club, with the manager, it’s important also the style of play we have now. He explained a lot to me in a video call with him, so I think it was a very important move for me and an opportunity to improve as a player in a team like Chelsea.”
Garnacho’s departure from Manchester United had been anticipated, particularly after he expressed dissatisfaction with being benched during the Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur in May. Earlier in the season, there were instances where manager Ruben Amorim felt Garnacho was not following instructions, notably during a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen. These factors contributed to his decision to seek new opportunities, leading to his pre-season training away from United’s first team.
Garnacho further explained: “At 10 years old, I moved to Atletico Madrid. I was there for five years before I moved to England, and I’m very happy to play here. The type of football they play here is really nice and really good for me, and also the passion of the fans and everything. Here everything is fast. I like this type of football, everyone watches the Premier League, it’s the most exciting league.”
Garnacho’s transition to Chelsea marks a significant step in his career, as he embraces the fast-paced and passionate environment of the Premier League. His enthusiasm for the league and the style of play at Chelsea underscores his commitment to making a substantial impact at his new club. With Sky Sports set to broadcast at least 215 live Premier League games this season, Garnacho is poised to be in the spotlight as he seeks to make his mark in one of the world’s most exciting football leagues.
