Bournemouth delivered a commanding performance against Nottingham Forest, securing a 2-0 lead by halftime with goals from Marcus Tavernier and Junior Kroupi. This marked the second consecutive game where Bournemouth led by two goals at the break, following their 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace the previous weekend. Manager Andoni Iraola emphasized that the team had learned from past experiences to maintain their lead and secure a solid victory.
Andoni Iraola said: “I think we used well the experience we had from past week. And then you don’t start with the same intensity, same concentration and in the Premier League, five, 10 minutes and you find yourself again 2-2. And I think we didn’t want this to happen. Everyone was very, very vocal in half time. And I think it has been a good use of that game.”
Iraola continued: “Two different halves, I think we played really, really well in the first half, we were arriving with intention, with numbers and I think it has been fair to arrive to the half time, 2-0 winning. Second half probably was not as brilliant.”
Reflecting on the goals, Iraola added: “I think we started really strong the game. Our plan was to make the game demanding. We knew also they had played a game on Thursday and we are better in these kinds of games with some tempo and we were arriving to good spots. And it’s always good when you can add goals from set pieces, shots from the outside. I think it arrived also in the moments that we needed because we were playing well, we were arriving a lot. But at the end you want to punish when you are in a good moment and it was perfect timing.”
In the first half, Bournemouth took the lead when Marcus Tavernier scored directly from a corner, showcasing the team’s set-piece prowess. Junior Kroupi then extended the lead with a stunning 30-yard strike into the bottom corner. Despite a less dominant second half, Bournemouth managed to maintain their advantage and secure a crucial win.
Iraola’s tactical approach emphasized the importance of maintaining intensity and concentration throughout the match. The team’s ability to capitalize on set pieces and long-range efforts was instrumental in their success. Bournemouth’s victory over Nottingham Forest not only demonstrated their resilience but also highlighted their capacity to learn from previous encounters, ensuring they secured the win this time around.
