Matty Cash
Aston Villa’s Matty Cash has expressed his delight at seeing teammate Morgan Rogers return to form after a challenging start to the season. Rogers, who had struggled to replicate last season’s consistent performances, scored his first league goal of the current campaign against Tottenham Hotspur, marking a significant turnaround in his form.
Matty Cash said: “That’s football. You see it a lot of times with different players and circumstances over the years. In tough moments you need the help and support of the fans and sometimes, at all clubs, you take some criticism. That is part of the game. I am delighted for him. He has shown that class is permanent. He needs to keep building and doing it because he is obviously a great player.”
Cash continued: “When you are a young player – and he is still young – who has only had a season and a bit here, it is tough. When things go tough, it can affect you. He is a human being. We all are. When things aren’t going well, it ain’t easy. I feel sometimes players read criticism, it is part of life. We are the ones who need to turn it around and perform. So yeah, I am happy for him.”
Rogers’ resurgence comes after a difficult beginning to the season where he struggled to reach his previous levels of performance. However, his recent form has been impressive, having opened his account for England earlier this month before securing a stunning equaliser against Tottenham. The 23-year-old forward’s improvement has been a testament to manager Unai Emery’s decision to maintain faith in him, providing the necessary support and encouragement.
Aston Villa’s recent victory over Tottenham marked their fifth consecutive win, following triumphs against Bologna, Fulham, Feyenoord, and Burnley. This winning streak has been a significant boost for Emery’s side, who had a challenging start to the campaign, failing to secure a win in their first six matches. The team finally found the net in their fifth league game, thanks to a strike from Matty Cash at Sunderland.
The team’s recent performances have been encouraging, and Cash highlighted the importance of not panicking during the early struggles. He noted that the results achieved away from home, such as against Everton and Sunderland, are now proving beneficial for the team.
Aston Villa fans will be hopeful that both Rogers and the team can continue to build on this momentum as they aim for further success in the current season.
