Morgan Rogers
Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, who was recently crowned PFA Young Player of the Year, has yet to score this season but has been instrumental in providing assists in his last two Premier League appearances. The 23-year-old has faced increased attention from opponents, with some managers choosing to double up on him to neutralize his impact on the field.
Unai Emery said: “He is getting better. He started a little bit like the team, not performing very well, not confident. But the last matches he played, maybe he’s not scoring, but he’s playing better. He’s feeling better, confident, of course it’s helping him, with the national team, how they were performing collectively and as well individually, his responsibility and being protagonist like he is in the starting 11.”
Rogers is anticipated to start in the upcoming match against Tottenham, where he previously scored in a 4-1 defeat last November. Tottenham, under new manager Thomas Frank, have had a strong start to the season, winning four of their first seven matches and sitting just two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Emery continued: “For them, was so, so important to achieve the Champions League. Of course, they added some players in their squad, very important players. I think now, the coach is of course doing very good work like he did when he was in Brentford, and he deserved to get something more.”
The match against Tottenham is set to be a significant challenge for Villa, as Spurs have emerged as one of the top teams in the Premier League under Frank’s leadership. Emery’s comments reflect his awareness of the threat posed by Tottenham, as well as his belief in Rogers’ potential to be a key player for Villa moving forward.
As the season progresses, Rogers’ ability to adapt to the increased attention from opposition teams will be crucial for Aston Villa. His recent performances suggest that he is on the right path to regaining his confidence and form, which will be vital for Villa’s aspirations this season.
