Fabian Hürzeler
Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has expressed his commitment to aiding Carlos Baleba’s development amid the midfielder’s recent dip in form. After a summer marked by interest from Manchester United and a knee injury, Baleba has struggled to maintain his previous performance levels. Hurzeler, however, is determined to support the young player and help him regain his form.
Fabian Hurzeler said: “I am a football coach because, first of all, of course I am obsessed with football. But second of all is seeing the improvement and development of the young players. And also helping them out of some bad phases. We talk a lot, for example, about Carlos. He had an incredible development last season and everyone was so pleased and so happy with him. Now there is a wave and it is really important to keep being with him, keep pushing him, keep supporting him. These are also moments I really enjoy. I think it is not only being there when everything is nice. It is easy when you are successful. When you see a player performing like Yasin and at the moment like Minteh to be happy. But exactly in these phases when it is not so good for the individual player, then to be there, then to be a supporter, then to be a challenger, I think these are the main things because that is something where we have to take responsibility as coaches, as the staff to be there for the players and try to get them back to their shape and develop them. That is why I am doing this job – to see these developments.”
Hurzeler’s dedication to player development is evident in his approach to Baleba’s current challenges. The Brighton manager is not only focused on the midfielder’s technical skills but also on providing emotional and psychological support during tough times. This holistic approach is crucial in helping young players navigate the pressures of professional football and bounce back from setbacks.
Baleba’s recent international duty with Cameroon saw him start in World Cup qualifiers, where the team secured a victory against Mauritius but was later held to a goalless draw by Angola. Despite these mixed results, Hurzeler remains optimistic about Baleba’s potential and is committed to ensuring that he continues to grow and succeed at Brighton.
