Gabriel Martinelli Arsenal
Gabriel Martinelli has sparked speculation about his future by revealing his long-term aspirations to return to Brazil and play for Corinthians. The Arsenal forward, who has been in impressive form recently, scoring against top clubs like Manchester City and Olympiacos, remains a key player in Mikel Arteta’s squad. Despite his current commitment to Arsenal, Martinelli has not ruled out a return to his roots in Sao Paulo, Brazil, later in his career.
Mikel Arteta said: “No, I think Gabi has been a super important player for us and he’s going to remain very, very, very important. The fact that we have options with different qualities, that’s going to fulfil what we want, because every opponent is going to require different things.”
Gabriel Martinelli said: “My relationship with Corinthians has always been very intense. I was born in Parque Sao Jorge. When I was six, I started playing there and spent my entire childhood at the club. I played futsal. Played on the pitch and spent every day of the week at Parque Sao Jorge. My life was there. I only don’t watch when I have a game the next day because they’re usually on at 1am, very late. But I always try to watch with my friends.”
He added: “In the last derby, Gabriel [Magalhaes] went home and we watched it together with our friends. At the end of my career, I have this dream of going back to Brazil. My dad and I have already talked about it, we’ll go back to Corinthians. It’s my dream, and my dad is a huge Corinthians fan.”
Martinelli’s comments come during the international break, allowing him to speak more openly about his future. The 24-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Ituano in Brazil in 2019, has established himself as a vital part of Arteta’s plans. His recent performances have further cemented his place in the team, making any potential departure a concern for Arsenal fans.
However, Martinelli has clarified that any move to Corinthians would be at the end of his career, providing some relief to those who hope to see him continue his journey in North London. His connection to Corinthians is deeply rooted, having spent his childhood playing at the club and maintaining a strong bond with it over the years. This revelation highlights Martinelli’s long-term vision and emotional ties to his hometown club, while also reassuring Arsenal supporters of his current commitment to the Gunners.
