Ibrahima Diallo
Reigning champions Liverpool find themselves trailing Arsenal by a single point after Arne Slot’s side experienced a setback before the international break. As both teams vie for supremacy, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Arsenal’s William Saliba have taken their club rivalry to the international stage. The two defenders are currently in France for their World Cup qualifying matches, where their banter has caught the attention of fans.
Ibrahima Konate said: “It’s for you this year.”
William Saliba responded: “No, it’s Liverpool again! We have to put pressure on them.”
The playful exchange between Konate and Saliba was captured on the French national team’s social media channels, highlighting their friendly relationship off the pitch. However, the duo may not share the field when France faces Azerbaijan in Paris, as Konate is dealing with an injury.
William Saliba revealed: “He hasn’t been training because he has some minor injuries. I hope he’ll be back soon but I don’t know any more.”
Didier Deschamps explained: “There are still injuries. I don’t have any additional information. We’ll have an update when the players arrive. The observation is that for the vast majority, they arrive tired. They arrive from one week to three matches. I will have to spread out the playing time more than in September. They are all fit to play.”
The injury concern surrounding Konate comes after he was substituted during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. France’s manager Didier Deschamps hinted that Konate’s absence might be due to fatigue, as players often arrive at international camps exhausted from club commitments.
This development raises questions about Konate’s readiness for upcoming fixtures, both for France and Liverpool. As the Premier League race heats up, Liverpool will be keen to have their key defender fit and available to challenge Arsenal’s lead. Meanwhile, Saliba’s comments suggest that Arsenal is equally determined to maintain their advantage, setting the stage for an intense title race.
