Brighton & Hove Albion are set to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, a venue where they have historically enjoyed success in the Premier League. Despite their strong record, the Seagulls approach the match with caution, aware of the challenges posed by Wolves, who are currently at the bottom of the table. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has emphasized the need for a mature and high-standard performance from his team to secure victory.
Fabian Hurzeler said: “When you only look at the results, you might think it’s an easy opponent. But in every game I saw so far from them, they had a chance to win. In every game, they played good football. They are very stable out of possession. They don’t give away a lot of chances. They have a good style of play in their three-two shape, with a lot of crosses, with a lot of players who attack the box. So it’s not easy to defend the box against them. I think they could easily have more points but that’s the Premier League. It’s tough. We know how it is, but we know we should never underestimate any opponent in the Premier League. We have to be really ready, we have to push our limits, we have to play on a high standard to win this game.”
Brighton’s visits to Molineux have often been fruitful, with the team securing seven wins in ten Premier League encounters at the venue. However, past experiences have taught them not to take any game lightly. The Seagulls’ only Premier League defeat at Molineux came during a match played behind closed doors, and they have also faced challenges in cup competitions, notably under Roberto De Zerbi.
The Seagulls have had memorable moments against Wolves, including a significant win on their way to promotion from the Championship in the 2016-17 season. However, they have also experienced frustrating draws, such as the 3-3 draw against ten men during Gus Poyet’s tenure, which led to the infamous decision to play a children’s cartoon on the team bus as a form of reprimand.
Andrea Orlandi recalled: “He played us Peppa Pig all the way down to Brighton. Because he said we played like kids and he was going to treat us like kids. Legend! It was awful.”
Despite the challenges, Brighton has enjoyed some thrilling victories at Molineux, highlighted by standout performances from players like Kaoru Mitoma, Leandro Trossard, and Adam Lallana. The team will look to replicate these moments as they aim to continue their strong form against Wolves.
As Brighton prepares for the upcoming match, Hurzeler’s focus remains on ensuring his team plays with maturity and consistency, avoiding the pitfalls of underestimating their opponents. With Wolves’ potential to surprise, the Seagulls are aware that maintaining high standards will be crucial to securing another successful outing at Molineux.
