#PremierLeagueStories – Manchester City manager #PepGuardiola gives Manchester United striker #MarcusRashford full backing #MCFC #MUFC

Pep Guardiola ensured Manchester is a united city by backing Marcus Rashford’s successful fight to affect a government U-turn on child poverty. The Manchester United and England star won his campaign to extend the right to free school meals over the summer holidays to help kids who are suffering through poverty, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The government did a U-turn after Rashford’s heartfelt letter struck a chord, although the Reds ace made it plain he will not give up his fight to make life better for children living below the poverty line. And Manchester City boss Guardiola lent his backing and expressed his admiration for what Rashford is trying to achieve.

Guardiola was asked about the usual response to footballers who make their voices heard outside of the game – that they should stick to sport. Pep was also asked about people who criticise footballers with a voice in light of Rashford’s campaign.

Pep Guardiola said: “Because maybe these stupid people don’t believe you are a human being too. We can have an opinion the same as a nurse, a doctor or even a politician. What we are, we are humans and why shouldn’t we say our opinion when we believe we can do a better society, when we are public?”
