Lightweight Middlesborough suffered a new relegation setback in the six-pointer against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park. They failed to cope with the south London side’s aggression and strength. A superb finish from Dean Holdsworth sealed the win after defender John Scales had given the home side the lead in the 33rd minute.
Middlesborough manager Lennie Lawrence was still in a defiant mood and said they still had a chance to stay up that season.
Lennie Lawrence said “I have been in worse situations than this and managed to survive. We have four of our last six matches at home and that’s where it will be decided. But we were well beaten tonight. Wimbledon was really on the button and was far superior – far stronger in the vital areas. We just have to battle on, we are certainly not worrying about anything.”
