Howard Kendall had many grounds in the country that season where he did not have the best of the memories as his team battled to fight relegation but Villa Park wasn’t one of them. He was hoping to continue an impressive series of results at Aston Villa’s home that week.
Howard Kendall said “I’ve had some good times there. The two semi-finals against Luton in 1985 and Sheffield Wednesday in 1986 stand out, and of course, we won in the league there in 1987 which as good as clinched the championship. Even when I was with Manchester City I had good times at Villa Park. I’m sure there will be a lot of support for us this Saturday as well”
Although he was awaiting a fitness update on Andy Hinchcliffe, Peter beagrie and Paul Ride out. Another positive result at Villa Park would be a big shot in the arm for the Goodison boss.
