As the season went bad to worse for the blue half of Merseyside, many of the star players pushing for a move away from the club. Arsenal had come back with a £2 million bid for Martin Keown whose contract was about to end at that season. Meanwhile, Leeds manager Howard Wilkinson was looking to replace out of form John LUkic and was targeting Everton keeper and captain, Neville Southall.
Everton was unlikely to agree to a move but if the results wouldn’t improve they were to find it difficult to hold on to their big guns.
