Bournemouth is facing a challenging period as they prepare to host West Ham this Saturday. The team will be without Justin Kluivert and Ben Gannon-Doak, both sidelined due to injuries. Kluivert is dealing with an abductor muscle injury, while Gannon-Doak’s hamstring injury is severe enough that it may require surgery, potentially keeping him out for several months.
Andoni Iraola said: “Because we had the confirmed injuries of Justin, an abductor muscle injury. So Justin is going to be out and Ben Gannon-Doak also, hamstring injury, especially Ben’s is a bad one. He will be out for some time. And today we have a consult with even with a surgeon to see if it’s something that has to go through surgery or we can go more conservative. But it’s a big, big hamstring injury. So Ben will be out for some months and it’s really bad news.”
Andoni Iraola continued: “Then we had also the incident with Adam Smith and Tyler Adams because they’ve both been kind of in the concussion protocol, so they are available for the game. But also it’s a very disappointing injury for him because he lost half a season basically past season after the spell in Middlesbrough.”
Andoni Iraola added: “I think it was a good moment because I always say the season in the Premier League after the November international break is very important because you play a lot of games in December, you play a lot of games in January and these two months are for me the base of your season. To lose a player like Ben, that is always a very good option to have for us is. It’s bad for us, especially for him, even personally, I suppose even worse.”
The absence of Kluivert and Gannon-Doak comes at a crucial time for Bournemouth. The Premier League schedule intensifies after the November international break, with a flurry of fixtures in December and January. Losing key players during this period could impact the team’s performance significantly. While Adam Smith and Tyler Adams have been cleared to play following concussion protocols, the loss of Gannon-Doak is particularly disappointing, given his past struggles with injuries. The team is now awaiting further medical consultations to determine the best course of action for Gannon-Doak’s recovery.
