Alejandro Garnacho
Chelsea’s acquisition of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for a £40 million fee marked a significant transfer move this season. The 21-year-old winger, who had a public fallout with former United manager Ruben Amorim, raised questions regarding his attitude both on and off the pitch. However, Chelsea’s thorough assessment of Garnacho reassured them of his potential, leading to their decision to invest in the promising talent. Despite a slow start attributed to his lack of pre-season preparation at Old Trafford, Garnacho has shown signs of becoming the player United once envisioned, particularly under the guidance of Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca.
Ten Hag said: “You have gone very quickly; world-class is something where he has to go a long way. He has a high potential, 100%, but last season he contributed and he can be a starting XI player.” He added: “To make that jump to being a world-class player, he has a long way to go. It starts with hard work.”
Maresca said: “He arrived here from another club where he was not training 100%. So his physical condition was not good. Slowly, slowly, now it’s better. He’s doing very well on the ball, but he’s doing very, very well off the ball. He knows that to play with us, he has to be good on the ball and off the ball. Otherwise, he’s not going to play. We are very happy with him at the moment.”
Garnacho’s recent performances have been promising, with the winger starting the last five Premier League matches for Chelsea. His contribution of two assists in the victory over Wolves before the international break highlighted his growing influence on the team. Maresca’s emphasis on Garnacho’s improvement off the ball has been pivotal in his development, as the coach remains impressed with the player’s progress. As Chelsea prepares to face Burnley this weekend, Garnacho will be keen to extend his run in the starting lineup, reflecting his growing importance to the team.
