Everton striker Tony Cottee was set to sign a new contract with the club. Negotiations had been going on to keep the £2 million strikers at Goodison Park when his contract would run out. Manager Howard Kendall believed that a one-year extension was going to be announced soon.
Howard Kendall said “We have had talks. We are not far away from a decision now and I expect it to be settled soon.”
Cottee had 198 career goals to his name and was set to continue his search to reach the 200 marks in their upcoming match against Manchester City.
