Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to Leicester City’s summer “reset” and told his current squad their work in training over the final fortnight of the season can determine if they are in his plans.
Brendan Rodgers said: “It’s very much open until the end of the season. Players get the opportunity every day to show that they want to be here. It’s not just in the games. Your attitude and energy in training is so important. They have to train hard and work well, that’s what they can control. They can’t control the team. I’m always observing training to look at the attitude and energy of the players. We’ll go into the summer and some players may want to leave for more game-time. Certainly I’m looking forward to the summer to reset, and bring in talent, hunger, goals and different profiles to the squad. You need to have that as you progress. We’re three-and-a-half years into what has been a great period for us. This is a chance to reflect and reset a lot of things. That’s the plan.”
Rodgers also insists his squad shake-up is supported by the hierarchy of the club, and is confident they can recruit the players that tick important boxes.
Brendan Rodgers added: “That’s where the club are brilliant. We’re very much together. We understand the frustrations of this year. That’s been a challenge for us but we also know what we’ve created over the last few years and we’re very focused now on the summer in terms of improving the squad. I said it needs a healthy shake-up, which most clubs do around this period. You want to keep your core players but you want to add quality. We’ve got certain player profiles we need in the team to help us improve. Everyone is together on that. We don’t have masses of money but we want to bring in players who are ready to adapt to how we want to work, players who are very offence-minded and aggressive. We think there are players like that out there. I’m sure when they come in, they can come in and improve.”
