THE Jamaican Football Federation are nervously awaiting a decision from Saints star Nathan Redmond as to whether or not he wishes to switch his international allegiance. Redmond, 27, featured regularly for England’s youth teams from under-16 level right through to the under-21s.

Asked about those reports at the time,

Nathan Redmond said: “I’ve not been contacted. I’ve heard some stories and seen a lot of stuff in the media, but no-one from the international set-up in Jamaica has contacted me. So I’m seeing it exactly the same way as everybody else is.”

Asked if playing for Jamaica is something he would be open to,

Nathan Redmond added: “I’ve not really spoken to my family about some of that stuff as of yet. Obviously it’s been difficult to see people during lockdown. So I’ve not really spoken to the family about that. That’s a decision I guess for all of them to make with me, because I’m quite close with my family and whatever I do football-wise impacts them and our lives.”

Since that interview in March, the Daily Echo understands Jamaica have now officially approached Saints to request the services of Redmond. However, they are yet to receive a response from the former Norwich City man, who would qualify to play for Jamaica through his father’s side of the family.
