Aston Villa have confirmed that £22 million striker Wesley will step up his recovery once more this afternoon with a start against Wolves’ under-23s at Bodymoor Heath.
Dean Smith said: “He was only meant to play 30 minutes (vs WBA last week) but played 45 which tells you he’s in a better place than we expected. That was good for him and he’ll play another 45 minutes today as well.”
Wesley could partner in-form youngster Louie Barry in attack later while the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka and Kaine Kesler return after impressing during England duty last week. The boss provided an update on Jack Grealish with the skipper set for his longawaited return after six weeks out with a shin injury.
Dean Smith said: “Jack Grealish’s trained all week. He’s only had a few sessions though. He seems in good nick and he seems fit enough, so he’s certainly put himself up for selection which is good for everybody.“
