Norwich manager Mike Walker’s complaints about United’s first two goals being offside were disproved by television replays. But replays did show that Norwich might have had penalties early on for fouls in Mark Robins and Gary Megson.

Mike Walker said “I just wonder what would have happened if the shirt had been on the other foot. The time this happens between the big club and the little club. We just didn’t get the breaks, but there is no point moaning about that. They stack away their chances but though we could have capitulated we didn’t and I was pleased with our spirit. We must not get away from the fact that we are not supposed to be up there with the super-elite.”
