Isolation is getting to Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, who is now craving his daily Caglar Soyuncu headlock. The City squad have mostly been training from home amid the coronavirus pandemic, with only limited individual sessions at Belvoir Drive. As such, the City players have not seen their colleagues in person for over a month. And Maddison has said, possibly jokingly, that he is missing Soyuncu’s training ground antics.

It was Ben Chilwell who first revealed that the Turkish centre-back enjoys “inflicting pain” on his team-mates, whether it’s a particularly strong handshake or a surprise headlock. On Thursday, Soyuncu posted on Instagram that he was “missing this feeling” alongside a clip of him hoisting Maddison into the air after his goal in the home win over Arsenal in November. Maddison replied: “I miss you getting me in a headlock every day, bro.”

It may be a while until Maddison gets his wish. While current noise suggests most Premier League clubs will return to regular training in mid-May ahead of a June resumption for the campaign, there will be strict guidelines in place. Headlocks are very likely to be prohibited.
