West Ham United boss David Moyes believes there is still time for Jarrod Bowen to win a spot in England’s squad for the 2022 World Cup. With only eight league games to go until the season pauses for the World Cup, as well as three matches in the Europa Conference League and one in the Carabao Cup, time is running out for Bowen to re-discover his best form in time for the World Cup, although his club manager Moyes believes Bowen is a few goals away from being back in contention to represent his country in Qatar.

David Moyes said: “Definitely. I told him the minute he walked back through the door. You get us four or five goals between now and the World Cup and you will be banging on the door as you were before, and he is more than capable. He had a shot blocked against Everton late on and you need sometimes for it to go through his legs and a lot of things change. Jarrod is a goal scorer now. He is a really good player to have in your squad. He can also come off the bench and he is no problem as a boy. I have got big hopes he will score the goals between now and the World Cup.”

Despite being not involved in either of England’s two matches over the international break, Bowen loved his time away with his country, his second call-up following his first involvement in the summer. Moyes believes that any call-up, regardless of game time, is highly beneficial and he has encouraged Bowen to take the quality on show during his time away with England as inspiration to get get back to his best.

David Moyes added: “He was absolutely thrilled to be involved with England, he thought it was a brilliant trip. I always say to them go away and look at the best players, see what they’re like, train with them, get the levels and know the levels you have to train and play at. I always want the players coming back feeling they’ve been enhanced by training with good players. Jarrod came back really positive about being with England. I said to him get yourself five or six goals between now and the World Cup you’ll be right back at that level and you’ll be picked. Because he’s got a goal, Jarrod. We want goals. He’s maybe not shown it yet but I feel he’s got it in him.”
