The Leicester City players’ trip to the darts “wasn’t a big deal” for manager Brendan Rodgers, with a spotlight back on the event following the club’s latest postponement.
Brendan Rodgers said: “My thoughts are simple: it wasn’t a big deal for myself, I’ve got to say. The players had one of very few weekends off. I think we have to trust the government that all of the regulations around sporting events are okay. People can come to football matches, players can go to darts matches. They didn’t need my permission to go, like they wouldn’t if they were going to a restaurant or if they were going to another sporting event. I didn’t think it was a great deal. The players are vaccinated. There was a protocol to get into the event and the players passed all of that like the others. We have to put faith in the protocols that the government put in place. I don’t expect my players, young and old, to not be able to go out. They have a life outside of football as well. That was my view on it.”
None of the players who attended are absent with Covid, with Maddison, Choudhury, and Barnes all starting in the FA Cup win over Watford at the weekend.
