Brendan Rodgers contested both of the key decisions that prevented Leicester City from earning victory at Manchester United. The City boss watched his side earn a point at Old Trafford but it could easily have been two more, especially if a couple of big calls by referee Andre Marriner had gone their way. On Maddison’s disallowed goal,
Brendan Rodgers said: “I’m disappointed. I think Varane has used his experience. I think the disappointing thing is that it didn’t directly lead to the goal. Harry (Maguire) is there but misses the challenge. The full-back misses the challenge. That’s all before we score. It was on the back of a really good move. It was a great finish.”
On the McTominay foul,
Brendan Rodgers added: “We had a decision earlier in the season that was not too dissimilar, at West Ham where Ayoze Perez has a heavy touch and goes into the challenge and gets sent off. It was similar. He was a wee bit heavy on his touch and goes in committed. It could very easily have seen red. That’s the inconsistency there.”
Beyond that, Rodgers was happy with what he saw. Beyond the Maddison finish, City had other chances for a second, with Iheanacho, having already scored a diving header, chipping a one-on-one over the bar, and Wesley Fofana denied by a flying save from David De Gea.
Brendan Rodgers said: “I’m pleased with the performance. It shows you the level when we’re disappointed not to win here We started really well. Each game we are getting back to our level and playing with that authority. Some of our football was really good. Good positioning and we linked up really well. We were strong in defence when we had to be. It was a good performance.”
