Terry Phelan’s future in football was under threat today with the news that the Manchester City and Republic of Ireland full-back had been charged with a serious offence by Manchester Police. Phelan was attending a party for Maine Road Backroom staff when a brawl erupted in the early hours of Sunday morning. A section 20 wounding offence was charged under grievous bodily harm and is regarded as a very serious charge.
