Nottingham Forest are set to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Wednesday night, following a 2-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. Despite the loss, Forest manager Sean Dyche emphasized that the upcoming match holds no additional significance, even though both teams are struggling at the lower end of the Premier League table.
Sean Dyche said: “They are all important games. I’m long in the tooth with all the talk about six-pointers and big games. Every game should be a big game. I’m not just saying that. My mentality as a player was like that – I wasn’t a brilliant player but I had a good mentality for playing. If you play right all of the time, you find a consistently high level of performance. That is what we are looking for these players to do.”
He added: “I don’t think there’s been a dip in momentum, in the sense of performance. Obviously you want wins – everyone wants wins – but sometimes there needs to be a marker within a game if it goes against you, and that is the performance. We didn’t start quickly on Sunday. But the thing I was really pleased with is that even though we didn’t start quick, we remained in the game. Second half was a very strong performance, barring the mistake at the end (for Brighton’s second). It was a tough one to take, in the sense of the result, but the performance showed a lot of key markers – and over a season, they can pay you back.”
Forest are currently positioned just outside the relegation zone, one point ahead of West Ham United and Leeds United, and two points above Burnley. Meanwhile, Wolves are at the bottom of the table, trailing Forest by 10 points. Despite their position, Wolves showed resilience in their recent 1-0 loss to Aston Villa under new manager Rob Edwards.
Sean Dyche commented on Wolves: “They looked strong against Aston Villa, who are going well themselves. They have got a new manager and he will be changing things and trying to get more out of them. We have got to be ready for that and I think we will be. Sunday’s result aside, we have had some strong performances.”
Dyche remains optimistic about his team’s progress and believes in the improvements his players have made since his arrival. As Forest prepare to take on Wolves, the focus will be on maintaining their performance levels and securing a crucial victory to strengthen their position in the league.
