Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is grappling with a series of injury setbacks as his team prepares to face Brentford. Despite some players returning to action, the injury list remains a concern for the Gunners. The recent 1-1 draw against Chelsea highlighted the challenges Arsenal faces, with William Saliba missing the match due to a knock, and Gabriel Magalhaes sidelined with a groin injury sustained during international duty with Brazil.
Mikel Arteta said: “I don’t know [how long he will be out for]. I think he’s got another test tomorrow. We’ll need to see the extent of that feeling, that sensation that he had. And we’ll know more with Gabi still some weeks to go.”
Gabriel Magalhaes is expected to miss most, if not all, of Arsenal’s December fixtures. Arteta also provided an update on Leo, indicating that another test was scheduled, with hopes that his condition is not severe. The manager remains hopeful about the potential returns of Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz, both of whom are nearing full fitness.
Arteta added: “[Scans] clear, not yet, but they are getting closer and closer. We are very positive with both of them and that’s it.”
Viktor Gyokeres made a brief return during the Chelsea match, suggesting that Kai Havertz could soon follow, having been absent since the opening day victory over Manchester United. Additionally, Gabriel Jesus made a significant step towards full recovery by featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly, marking his first inclusion in an Arsenal matchday squad in nearly 11 months.
Arteta emphasized the importance of monitoring Jesus’s recovery process to ensure his body responds well to the increased demands. Despite the injury challenges, Arteta expressed confidence in the squad’s current balance, which he believes provides a solid foundation for the upcoming fixtures.
The Gunners will need to navigate these injury concerns carefully as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the Premier League. With key players on the mend, Arsenal supporters will be hopeful for a swift return to full strength.
