Unai Emery
Aston Villa’s recent performance in the league has been a testament to their resilience and growth as a team under the guidance of manager Unai Emery. Despite a challenging start to the season, Villa has managed to secure 21 points from a possible 24, demonstrating significant improvement and cohesion within the squad. This development was evident in their recent match against Sunderland, where they secured a draw despite being reduced to 10 men.
Unai Emery said: “I was worried and I was responsible. I tried to share responsibility with the players two months ago. We remember it every day. How we responded and why we are now different to it. Now we are trying to set our standard high. We are trying to set our level high in everything. Working, taking time to prepare each game, having meetings, as well analysing individually and collectively how they are doing and, of course, taking responsibility, being mature. Being mature and being players, responding like a man. I think the most important thing is how the players respond. Before they did as well, but we were, in some circumstances, not helping us. But now, watching how Emiliano Martinez saved two or three actions. How today, when we were scoring the goal, everybody was getting emotions together. I think, in the dressing room, this is really the part of football we needed to add – like we are doing now.”
Emery continued: “We are feeling stronger. How we are building our structure stronger, tactically and emotionally, we are stronger. Building a team is a process, and how we have been getting points in the last matches has been fantastic. We are now in the top five, but a lot of teams are behind us, more contenders than us to get there. We are going to try to focus on each match and with three points. We are feeling happy, but we have to focus so, so quickly on the match against Brighton on Wednesday.”
Emery’s reflections highlight the transformation within the team, emphasizing the importance of maturity and responsibility among the players. The manager’s strategic approach, involving meticulous preparation and analysis, has been pivotal in Villa’s upward trajectory. The team’s current position in the top five of the league standings is a testament to their hard work and determination.
As Villa prepares to face Brighton, Emery remains focused on maintaining the momentum and ensuring the team continues to perform at a high level. The upcoming match presents a new challenge, and Emery is determined to keep the team grounded and focused on securing vital points. The manager’s commitment to building a strong tactical and emotional foundation has been instrumental in Villa’s recent success, and he continues to demand the best from his players.
