Vincent Kompany
Vincent Kompany, the former Manchester City defender, is making waves in the football world as he continues to enhance his reputation with Bayern Munich. The 39-year-old has had a remarkable start to the season, leading Bayern to a strong position in the Bundesliga and garnering attention as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Despite Bayern’s recent Champions League loss to Arsenal, Kompany’s team has been impressive, scoring 41 goals in 11 Bundesliga matches and establishing a six-point lead at the top of the table.
Joleon Lescott said: “I thought Vinny was going to be whatever he wanted to be and very successful at that. What he’s doing isn’t necessarily surprising me because Vinny is very impressive as a human. So whatever he dedicated his mind to doing, he was going to be successful, whether that be coaching or President of Congo or Prime Minister of Belgium. Honestly, whatever he was going to try to do, he was going to be successful. I’m very pleased for him. Even though he’s doing amazing things, he’s slightly going under the radar. He isn’t being glamourised the way he should, in my opinion. We’ve seen some other great players not being as successful and be given opportunities. And I don’t say Vinny’s being given the opportunity, but he’s relatively new in his managerial career. I see him definitely managing Manchester City at some point. Whether it’s next after Pep, I don’t know. I don’t know if that would be the right move for him. I don’t know if the next manager, whether it is Vinny or whoever, will emulate what Pep has done. It’s kind of like Sir Alex going. After that, it’s going to be very difficult. I don’t think the club will decline like Manchester United have. But just this level of success that Pep has had, it’s going to be difficult to emulate that. Whether that is Vinny’s job to do next, who knows? I know he signed a new deal at Bayern, so I don’t think they’re in a rush to let him leave.”
Kompany’s appointment at Bayern Munich in May 2024 was unexpected, especially after leading Burnley to relegation in the Premier League. He was not the top choice for the role, but after several more established managers declined the position, Kompany seized the opportunity. His leadership has transformed Bayern’s style of play, earning praise for their fast, vibrant, and attacking football. This success has not only bolstered his credentials but also positioned him as a potential candidate to manage Manchester City in the future.
Joleon Lescott, who played alongside Kompany at Manchester City, expressed confidence in Kompany’s abilities and potential as a manager. While Lescott believes Kompany could one day manage Manchester City, he advises caution about taking on the role immediately after Guardiola’s departure. The challenge of following in Guardiola’s footsteps, given the unprecedented success he has achieved, would be significant for any manager.
Kompany’s journey from a surprise appointment at Bayern to a leading managerial figure underscores his adaptability and potential. While his future at Manchester City remains speculative, his current trajectory at Bayern Munich continues to impress and elevate his status in European football.s
