Lewis Dunk Brighton
Brighton & Hove Albion’s captain, Lewis Dunk, played a pivotal role in his team’s comeback victory over Brentford, despite having missed training sessions earlier in the week due to illness. Dunk was introduced at half-time with Brighton trailing 1-0, and his leadership on the pitch was instrumental in turning the game around to secure three crucial points.
Fabian Hurzeler said: “It’s the reason why he’s the skipper for so many times for us and in certain moments you need leaders on the pitch and we needed a leader like him on the pitch who kept the group together, who was important for us bringing a little bit of calmness, to bring structure into the game. Therefore we are very pleased with him. He couldn’t train in the last days but we all know that in certain moments he can do unbelievable things regarding his body. He has proved it another time and luckily everything went well. I think we wouldn’t put a player who’s not 100% there in our squad. We knew that Lewis is there 100% when we need him and, in the second half we needed him. I think overall, not only because he wasn’t training in two days before, overall it was a good performance from him and he showed not only a good performance, also leadership.”
Dunk’s performance was a testament to his resilience and leadership qualities, which have been pivotal for Brighton in challenging situations. His ability to maintain composure and provide structure was crucial in the second half, allowing the team to regroup and push for a win. Despite not being fully fit due to his recent illness, Dunk’s presence on the field was invaluable.
Brighton is now gearing up for a demanding schedule, with nine games lined up over the next six weeks. This period will test the squad’s depth and fitness, making it essential for players to remain in top form. Head coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed optimism about the return of several players to the squad, which will be vital for navigating the busy fixture list.
The match against Brentford also marked the Premier League debut of Olivier Boscagli, who was substituted at half-time. Hurzeler was positive about Boscagli’s performance and highlighted the strength of Brighton’s bench, which included defensive options like Max De Cuyper, Joel Veltman, and Diego Coppola. The gradual return of players from injury is a promising sign for Brighton as they aim to maintain their form in the league.
