Unai Emery
Aston Villa are set to face Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday, seeking their sixth victory in seven Premier League matches. Leeds, who have been formidable at home with only one league defeat this season, are coming off consecutive away losses at Brighton and Nottingham Forest, where they conceded three goals in each game. A win for Villa could propel them into the Champions League places by the weekend’s end. Notably, Leeds have struggled against top-half teams, failing to secure a win in their last 17 encounters since their victory over Liverpool in October 2022. Meanwhile, under Unai Emery, Villa have remained unbeaten in all 17 Premier League games against promoted sides.
Unai Emery said: “In the Premier League, every match we are playing, to be favourite is very difficult. I am not feeling favourite, never. Playing against Leeds, playing against Bournemouth, playing against Liverpool. I am never feeling favourite. I know the difficulties we are going to face each match. We faced some difficulties before. I started speaking about how we are performing away. Brentford – lost, Everton – draw, Sunderland – draw, Tottenham – win, Liverpool – we lost. And were we favourites against those teams? I don’t know. Whether teams are in the bottom or the top, I am never feeling favourite. I know we can win, but I know we can lose. This is my message in the dressing room. I think they (the players) know better than me. But with my experiences before, I know it is difficult.”
Emery continued: “This is the first time I will have ever played at Elland Road, but I know how difficult it will be. I know the atmosphere is fantastic. I know their history in the Premier League and Europe. I know this is usually a team being in the Premier League.”
Unai Emery’s cautious approach underscores the unpredictable nature of the Premier League, where no game is easy, and every team poses a challenge. His comments reflect a deep understanding of the league’s competitive environment and the need for his players to remain focused and prepared for any outcome. Villa’s recent form has been impressive, and Emery’s leadership has been pivotal in their quest for a top-four finish. The upcoming match at Elland Road will be a test of their mettle and resilience, as they aim to capitalize on Leeds’ recent struggles and move closer to their Champions League aspirations.
