Dominic Calvert Lewis
Leeds United are set to return to action this weekend, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin eager to add to his goal tally. The striker, who joined Leeds United in the summer transfer window after a nine-year stint with Everton, has been gradually finding his feet at Elland Road. Despite a delayed debut, Calvert-Lewin has become a key figure in the squad, starting seven of the last eight matches.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin said: “I would say it’s been a good start, could be better, can always be better, being critical. But I think that I didn’t have much time to really get into the swing of things. I signed, what was it, four days before the season started? So [I was] trying my best to keep myself fit, but it’s not the same as playing and training with a team. So once I came in, it was just about building fitness, and I got that through training and playing games in the Premier League, the most watched league in the world. I think as my fitness has grown, my output’s increased, and I feel probably physically I’m at a level now where I’m as fit as I can be. So it’s just about fine tuning the things on the pitch. As far as like the club and the staff and the players, it’s been a joy to join and a joy to be involved in a great group of lads and [I’ve] settled in really quickly. I feel at home, I think it’s something familiar as when I first came hearing the accents and things like that, it felt like home.”
Calvert-Lewin’s journey at Leeds United began on August 15, when he signed as a free agent. However, he missed the opportunity to face his former club, Everton, just three days later. His full debut came on September 13, and since then, he has been a regular starter. Despite only scoring once in nine appearances, the striker’s presence on the field has been impactful, and he came close to adding to his tally even when coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest.
As Leeds United prepare to face Aston Villa on Sunday, Calvert-Lewin is hopeful of returning to the starting lineup. His integration into the team has been smooth, and he has expressed satisfaction with his current fitness levels and the welcoming environment at the club. With the Premier League season in full swing, Calvert-Lewin’s focus remains on fine-tuning his performance and contributing more goals for his team.
