Anthony Elanga Manchester United
Anthony Elanga’s unexpected exit from Sweden’s national team preparations ahead of their match against Slovenia has sparked concern among Newcastle United supporters. As Newcastle gears up for their crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City, the club is also dealing with several player injuries, including Anthony Gordon, who has yet to return to training.
Petra Thorén, Sweden’s Press Officer, said: “For private reasons.”
Despite Sweden’s current struggles under manager Graham Potter, which see them at the bottom of Group B, they still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup finals next summer, thanks to their UEFA Nations League performance. This achievement has secured them a play-off spot, offering Elanga the opportunity to participate in the prestigious tournament next year.
Anthony Elanga said: “It’s not nice. But we played a good first half. It’s hard to take anything positive from a 4-1 loss, but we have to do that. We’ve only been with Graham Potter for four days and yet we were able to show what we did in the first half. All the players are positive even though we lost 4-1. We just have to take the positives, do better on Tuesday (against Slovenia) and then be ready for the playoffs in March.”
Elanga continued: “I felt really good. I’m happy to start for the national team, it’s a great honour and Graham gives me the freedom to be a threat.”
Eddie Howe said: “Anthony is going to be a great player for this football club, I’ve got no doubt about that but some players need a little bit extra time and more support and for just something to happen positively for them to suddenly kick off. He’s got all the attributes to do really well here, so I’ve got no issues or worries with him.”
Elanga, who joined Newcastle United from Nottingham Forest, has yet to score or provide an assist for the Magpies and has recently lost his starting position to Jacob Murphy. Despite this, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe remains confident in Elanga’s potential, emphasizing the player’s promising attributes and the need for patience and support to help him succeed.
