Morgan Gibbs White
Nottingham Forest secured a vital 3-1 victory over Leeds United, with Morgan Gibbs-White playing a pivotal role in the triumph. The midfielder’s performance under manager Sean Dyche has been noteworthy, scoring three goals in five games. Despite a challenging start to the season, Gibbs-White has shown resilience and potential for further improvement, as highlighted by Dyche’s confidence in his abilities.
Sean Dyche said: “He’s had unfair question marks, and fairly or unfairly is irrelevant. We all know what makes a story. So therefore the story is out there. I said to him: ‘Don’t worry about what’s gone, just keep working and enjoy what we’re doing.’ Three in five is a pretty decent marker. He missed a penalty the other night, if he scores that it’s four in five and all of a sudden everyone’s talking about him. But he’s a good player. I want him to get in the air. I want him to go and score goals. I want him to enjoy what he’s doing.”
Dyche continued: “Enjoying is reinforced, quite obviously, when you win games. I used to love that feeling – when you’ve worked hard, you look around the dressing room, everyone’s worked hard, people on the bench, everyone’s involved, and then you win. That’s a great feeling. But now we’re hungry for more. Don’t just accept that like: ‘Oh well, that’s all right.’ It’s not all right. All right gets you nothing if you want to achieve things, all right is going to get you nothing. So we push for more than all right.”
The match at the City Ground saw Nottingham Forest initially fall behind in the 13th minute. However, Ibrahim Sangare equalized, setting the stage for Gibbs-White to put the team ahead. Elliot Anderson sealed the victory with a late penalty, ensuring all three points for Forest. Anderson’s consistent performances have also earned him a place in the England squad, a testament to his growing influence on the pitch.
Dyche remarked on Anderson: “He did well to get in it. People forget that. People say: ‘Oh well, he must be really disappointed.’ But he got in it, so it doesn’t mean he can’t get in it again. It is getting himself back to the basics of what he does, that energy. I call it infectious, you know, the on-pitch presence and being infectious around the group, then scoring goals and arriving as he did. That’s two of those types of goals he’s scored. I’m very pleased for him and just want him to keep playing with a smile.”
This victory marks an important step for Nottingham Forest as they navigate the challenges of the season. With Dyche’s leadership and the promising form of players like Gibbs-White and Anderson, the team is poised to build on this momentum and strive for greater achievements.
