Everton Hill Dickinson
Simon Williams, a lifelong Everton FC supporter from Exeter, embarked on a journey to Liverpool with two friends to visit family and catch an Everton match. Despite facing initial disappointment in securing tickets, Williams’s experience took an unexpected turn, showcasing the warmth and generosity of the Everton community.
Simon Williams said: “We thought we’d be able to get tickets at Bramley-Moore. After we were told they were sold out we went to The Terrace bar at the ground and tried to find resale tickets online. I went onto a website and purchased two tickets for £278. We [Simon and Susie] went back over to the ground and asked for help from a steward. We were told that the site was not an official website.”
Simon continued: “She was called Sheila and she was with someone called Paul. I explained to her what happened. I apologised for the trouble and told her I was going back to the Terrace to watch the match from there. As we were walking back all I heard was Everton fans cheering from inside the stadium.”
Simon added: “I joked and asked if they would be half price because it was after half time but she said no, they are free hospitality seats and marched us from the pub into the seats. It was amazing, she even gave us a gift bag with all sorts in it.”
Williams’s story highlights the camaraderie and kindness within the Everton community. After failing to secure tickets through official channels, he attempted to purchase them from a resale website, only to discover it was not legitimate. Despite this setback, the generosity of Everton staff members, Sheila and Ricky, turned his day around. They offered Williams and his friend Susie complimentary hospitality seats, allowing them to enjoy the match in style. This act of kindness was further sweetened with a gift bag, leaving Williams deeply appreciative of the Everton staff’s efforts.
This incident at Bramley-Moore Dock not only underscores the challenges fans face in securing match tickets but also the potential for heartwarming experiences through the goodwill of club staff. Williams’s experience serves as a testament to the spirit of football communities, where moments of disappointment can transform into cherished memories through unexpected acts of kindness.
