Ezri Konsa
Ezri Konsa has recently taken on a leadership role at Aston Villa, stepping in as captain in the absence of John McGinn, who started on the bench in a recent match. Konsa, who has been a key figure for Villa since joining in 2019, is focused on maintaining his form and fitness as he eyes further success with the club. Despite recent setbacks in away games, Konsa remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.
Ezri Konsa said: “It’s a great achievement for me. For John as well, 300 appearances is not easy, especially at a high level. So for me and him, it’s about staying consistent, staying fit. That’s the main thing. If you’re fit, you play. Especially here, if you’re doing well, you play. I’ve spent so many years here and for years I’ve seen different captains. Obviously, we’ve got a great captain in John McGinn and he wasn’t playing today, so I took the armband and really enjoyed it. I’m going to try to stay fit. It’s a big year. I’m going to England. It’s all about staying fit, staying consistent and continuing to play well. And that’s it for me really.”
Konsa continued: “Yeah, I’d like to think so. I’m in good shape, I’m in good form. Consistency is key, especially for me. I want to stay up there. I want to keep my standards high. I’ve got to take it game by game. I can’t look too far ahead. I don’t know what’s going to happen in a couple of months, what my performance is going to be. But for now, I’m playing well. I’m enjoying my football. The last couple of seasons they’ve been really good. They had a good start last season as well. Last season we drew 1-1 here, a last-minute goal. We know how tough it’s going to be. No game in the Premier League is easy, no matter who it is. We were right up there for a long time last year. No-one expected that. Bournemouth are up there now. And we’re one of those teams that want to be up there as well.”
Konsa added: “We’ve been on a good run. Liverpool’s always a tough fixture and in that game we made two mistakes which led to two goals. I don’t feel like Liverpool created that many clear-cut chances. We have to bounce back on Sunday because we know how tight the table is. A win gets us back up there as well. That’s what we’re going to do.”
Konsa’s comments reflect a determined mindset as he acknowledges the challenges of the Premier League and the importance of consistency. While Villa’s recent away losses, including a defeat to Liverpool, have been setbacks, Konsa emphasizes the need to remain focused and bounce back. His leadership on the pitch, especially in the absence of key figures like McGinn, highlights his growing influence within the squad.
Villa’s strong home form contrasts with their recent away struggles, but Konsa’s optimism suggests a belief in the team’s ability to recover and compete at the top level. As the season progresses, Konsa’s focus on fitness and consistency will be crucial for both his personal achievements and the club’s ambitions.
