Marco Silva
Fulham manager Marco Silva expressed his disappointment following the team’s 2-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday. The match, held in the North West, saw Fulham struggle against a physically dominant Everton side, with Silva describing Fulham’s performance as limited to “small spells” throughout the game.
Marco Silva said: “We got what we deserved. We played 20 minutes in the whole game. What we should have done and what we planned to do were there but in small spells during the first-half. All these moments came from that moment.”
“You have to insert some type of tool that the Premier League demands of you, simple as that. Same teams they play in one way, other teams they play in the other, and you have to be able to handle because what is more disappointing for us, for all of us, should be we are losing and winning games away from home (no consistency).”
“Our away form this season so far has not been at the level that it was the last three seasons. This season, we’ve had some injury problems, like we had again this afternoon. In my opinion, we can lose football matches because the other team is better than you but we cannot lose because of physicality. It’s been difficult in that position, Raúl, as you know, is not at his best at the moment (recovering from injury) it’s not easy for him to reach these levels of intensity. I don’t remember one full training session from him in the last 15 days.”
“And, of course, after Rodrigo came on, he had a good impact in the game and then he felt something again in the same leg, same area of the hamstring. It looks like not good news for us. It was 50/50, it was precaution.”
Fulham’s defeat highlighted ongoing challenges with consistency and physicality, particularly in away matches. Silva pointed out that the team’s away form has not matched the standards set in previous seasons, partly due to injury issues affecting key players like Raúl, who has been struggling to regain full fitness. The manager also noted Rodrigo’s impact on the game, though his subsequent injury setback adds to Fulham’s concerns.
Overall, Fulham’s inability to maintain a consistent level of performance, especially in physically demanding matches, remains a significant issue for Silva and his squad. The manager’s comments underscore the need for the team to adapt better to the Premier League’s physical demands to avoid similar defeats in the future.
