Nottingham Forest secured their first Premier League point under new head coach Sean Dyche with a 2-2 draw against Manchester United. The team now shifts focus to their upcoming Europa League match against Sturm Graz, followed by a league fixture against newly-promoted Leeds United. However, the Reds face injury concerns with midfielder Douglas Luiz and winger Callum Hudson-Odoi both picking up knocks during the match.
Sean Dyche said: “I don’t know yet. We are in (today, Sunday) so I will get more of an assessment after then.” On whether it was a hamstring problem for Luiz, Dyche added: “I have only spoken to the team, not the injured players or the medics so I don’t want to put words in their mouth.”
Luiz, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, was forced off in the 14th minute at the City Ground, indicating discomfort in the same area. His previous hamstring issue had sidelined him for three games earlier this season, following an injury during a Europa League match against Real Betis. Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi was withdrawn late in the game due to a knock, raising further concerns for Dyche as he prepares for the upcoming fixtures.
Dyche told the BBC: “We’ve lost another couple. We’ll wait to find out the depth of the injuries. Callum has got a knock and we have to be careful because if that is a strain rather than a dead leg, it’s trouble. We’re waiting on Dougie. We have already got people out who have proved over the last few years to be good players at this football club.”
The team is currently navigating a challenging period without a league win since the opening day of the season. Dyche hinted at potential squad rotation to manage player fitness, particularly with the international break approaching. The Reds are also dealing with other injuries, including striker Chris Wood, who is recovering from a knee issue, and are without Oleksandr Zinchenko, Dilane Bakwa, Angus Gunn, and long-term absentee Ola Aina.
Dyche’s strategic decisions in the coming matches will be crucial as Nottingham Forest aims to maintain momentum in the Europa League and improve their league standing. The coach’s approach to managing player fitness and squad depth will be under scrutiny as the team seeks to overcome these injury hurdles.
