David Moyes
David Moyes has expressed his admiration for Iliman Ndiaye’s development and impact on his Everton side as they gear up for their Premier League encounter with Sunderland. Since returning to Everton, Moyes has witnessed Ndiaye’s transformation into a crucial player, particularly in a team that was previously struggling to find the back of the net.
David Moyes said: “I wondered when I came in how he was going to be, would he add goals to what we had because maybe if your nines aren’t getting them, you’re saying where else are we getting the goals? So, I have to say, when I first came I thought: ‘Is Ili going to get us enough goals?’ But he has and he’s got us important goals and important assists but I actually think he’s got better.”
Ndiaye’s performance has been nothing short of impressive, especially considering the team’s precarious position near the relegation zone when Moyes took charge. The Senegal international made an immediate impact by scoring a stunning solo goal in Moyes’ first victory against Tottenham Hotspur. He continued to shine, scoring in wins over Brighton & Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Crystal Palace, while also providing a crucial assist for Idrissa Gueye’s goal at Anfield.
Despite his contributions, there is a sense that Ndiaye’s performances have warranted even more recognition. His ability to deliver in crucial moments has been a significant factor in Everton’s improved form. However, his absence is anticipated during the Africa Cup of Nations, where he will represent Senegal, highlighting his importance to the team.
Moyes is already strategizing for this period, aware of the void Ndiaye’s absence might create. The manager’s confidence in Ndiaye’s abilities is evident, as he remains a pivotal part of Everton’s plans moving forward. With a long-term contract in place, Moyes has no concerns about Ndiaye’s future at the club.
As Everton prepares for their match against Sunderland, Ndiaye’s role will be crucial, and Moyes will be hoping for another standout performance from the attacker.
