Manchester United managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest in their latest Premier League encounter at the City Ground. Despite taking the lead through Casemiro’s header, United faced a swift turnaround in the second half, with Forest netting twice in quick succession. Morgan Gibbs-White equalized for Forest, followed by Nicolo Savona’s goal, putting the hosts ahead. However, Amad’s late strike ensured United left with a point. Manager Ruben Amorim shared his thoughts on the match and the team’s evolving resilience.
Ruben Amorim said: “Yeah.” He paused before adding: “By more goals [they would have lost]. We came from three good games and we have a different confidence. We understand each other better. We talk more about this, that football is like this, and we proved it this year. We can have bad moments, but suddenly we have three good games. So football is like that. And the game is like that also. We had good moments, we score, you can sense we are in control of the game when the first half finished. We started the second half, we suffer, disconnect for five minutes and that’s enough in the Premier League, but we managed to recover from that, which is a good feeling.”
Discussing his thoughts on the game in further detail, Amorim said: “We lost control of the game for five minutes and paid the price. We did some things well. Our level of energy dropped a little bit. And when our energy drops a little bit, you can feel it. We can play well, but it’s not full power. But my feeling is that the players tried, really tried. They tried during the week and tried again today. In the past, if we had this kind of bad five minutes and we suffer two goals, we didn’t recover. Today is a different feeling and you can sense we could win this game, but we weren’t going to lose, and that’s sometimes the feeling a big team sometimes has. We had the opportunity to win in the end, but we drew. We dropped two points. I think last year we suffered a lot. We just need to be inside of the game until the final 10 minutes of the game. That is part of football. In the past, we could have lost everything in the positions and the way we play the game. I think we are improving in that aspect. Again, we did some things right, but we also have potential to play so much better, which is the goal.”
Amorim’s comments highlighted a shift in United’s mentality compared to last season. The manager acknowledged the team’s improved confidence and understanding, which have contributed to their ability to recover from setbacks during matches. The game against Forest demonstrated both the progress made and the areas needing further improvement. Despite the draw, United’s ability to claw back a point in challenging circumstances suggests a growing resilience within the squad. Amorim’s focus remains on maintaining consistency and striving for better performances as the season progresses.
