Newcastle United’s festive fixture schedule has undergone significant changes following the latest round of Premier League amendments. The Magpies will see their matches against Manchester United, Burnley, and Crystal Palace rescheduled, impacting their Christmas and New Year plans.
Newcastle United said: “Four more of Newcastle United’s festive fixtures have been rescheduled in the latest round of Premier League fixture amendments. Three December matches had already been moved in the previous set of alterations, and now the rest of the Magpies’ Christmas and New Year period has been finalised. The trip to Manchester United has been brought forward from Saturday, 27th December to Friday, 26th December, with that Boxing Day kick-off confirmed as 8pm GMT. Eddie Howe’s side then travel to the United head coach’s former club Burnley on Tuesday, 30th December at 7:30pm GMT instead of 8pm GMT as initially advertised. They kick-off 2026 with a home game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, 4th January, kicking off at 4pm GMT – a day later than first scheduled. All four matches will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. With fewer weekends to work with, the League is bound by how the calendar falls. The League can give an assurance that next season there will be more Premier League matches on Boxing Day – as the date falls on a Saturday. This will allow greater time for players to recover with the rest periods between rounds 18, 19 and 20 being increased to ensure that no club plays within 60 hours of another match.”
The rescheduling of these fixtures means Newcastle’s trip to Manchester United will now take place on Boxing Day, December 26th, at 8pm GMT. This adjustment moves the match forward by a day. Following this, the Magpies will face Burnley on December 30th, with the kick-off time slightly adjusted to 7:30pm GMT. The start of 2026 will see Newcastle hosting Crystal Palace on January 4th, a day later than initially planned, with a 4pm GMT kick-off.
These changes are in line with the Premier League’s efforts to manage fixture congestion during the festive period. The adjustments aim to provide adequate rest for players, ensuring no club plays another match within 60 hours. The League has also promised more matches on Boxing Day next season, as it falls on a Saturday, allowing for better recovery time between fixtures.
Additionally, Newcastle’s clash against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light has been rescheduled to kick-off at 2pm on December 14th, 24 hours later than originally planned. This change comes shortly after their trip to Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, potentially benefiting the Magpies with additional recovery time.
