Pedro Porro
In the aftermath of Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, Pedro Porro, who captained the side, has shared his thoughts on the match. Despite the loss, Porro commended the team’s mentality and the unwavering support from the 5,000 traveling Tottenham fans at St James’ Park. The Spanish full-back stepped up in the absence of regular captains Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven but could not lead his team to victory.
Pedro Porro said: “A bad result for them, no and for us I think but I love the mentality of the team because you concede a goal in the set pieces this happens in football. But we stayed in the game, started the second half and we concede again. The best thing about today is the fans, thank you so much and keeping going on Saturday.”
Porro, who had previously criticized the team’s mentality following a goalless draw against Monaco in the Champions League, maintained a positive outlook despite the setback. He acknowledged the team’s performance in the first half and emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong mentality on the pitch.
Pedro Porro said: “I think we played well in the first half. Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more. But I think the most important thing today is the mentality we put everything in on the pitch, you lose this game, it’s disappointing because last season we arrived in the semi final and lost in Anfield but I think for me the other team is good. The atmosphere is incredible. This is important for the game but we know we have another game on Saturday in the afternoon and we’ll go again.”
Despite Tottenham’s inability to capitalize on their chances, with Richarlison struggling to find the net, Porro’s comments reflect a determination to bounce back quickly. The focus now shifts to their upcoming Premier League fixture against Chelsea, where Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven are expected to return to the squad. Vicario was absent from the trip to Newcastle, while van de Ven was rested on the bench.
As Tottenham continues to navigate a challenging season, Porro’s leadership and positive attitude could play a crucial role in maintaining team morale and performance. The upcoming match against Chelsea presents an opportunity for Spurs to regain momentum and showcase the resilience that Porro so highly values.
