Tom Cleverley Manchester United
Tom Cleverley has received a vote of confidence from Plymouth Argyle’s hierarchy despite the club’s challenging start to the season. After taking over the League One side following his departure from Watford, Cleverley has faced a tough battle as Argyle finds themselves in a relegation fight. The team, relegated from the Championship last season, is currently 22nd out of 24 in the third tier, with only one point from their last four matches.
Paul Berne said: “We are a quarter of the way into Tom’s first season with us. Whilst results have been disappointing, nothing has changed in terms of Tom being the right person for this club. We’ve had a number of circumstances which have hit us in recent weeks, resulting in key players being missing throughout the opening 14 league games. This was emphasised last night, with Tom unable to fill the substitutes bench, and nine players being unavailable for selection, with the vast majority considered first-team starters.”
“These are not excuses, but facts, and are clearly not ideal circumstances for any head coach to deliver consistent, winning performances. But, we believe Tom has all the tools to still deliver this. Throughout all of this, the support of the Green Army has never wavered, with continued sell-out home crowds and incredible away backings. This support is never taken for granted by anyone at the football club, especially Tom, his staff and the players. We are One Argyle, and as history has proven, when we are united we can achieve special things. Let’s stick together. COYG.”
Despite the setbacks, including a depleted squad that saw only six substitutes named in their recent match against Mansfield, Plymouth Argyle’s management remains steadfast in their support for Cleverley. The club’s chief executive, Paul Berne, highlighted the difficult circumstances, citing injuries that have sidelined nine first-team players.
The club’s struggles are compounded by the shadow of last season’s relegation and the departure of Wayne Rooney, who left with the club at risk of being cut adrift. Cleverley, who succeeded Milon Muslic after his move to Schalke, now faces the daunting task of preventing consecutive relegations. However, the unwavering support from the fanbase, known as the Green Army, continues to bolster the team’s morale, with sell-out home crowds and strong away support.
As Plymouth Argyle navigates this challenging period, the club’s unity and resilience will be crucial in their fight to climb out of the relegation zone. The management’s belief in Cleverley’s ability to turn the tide remains firm, emphasizing a collective effort to achieve success.
