Jeremy Doku
Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has opened up about his development since joining the club and being coached by Pep Guardiola. Since arriving at the Etihad in 2023, Doku has been tasked with filling the void left by Riyad Mahrez. Despite facing challenges, including adapting to Guardiola’s style and dealing with injuries, Doku has shown promising progress this season.
Jeremy Doku said: “There are a lot of things I learn daily but the biggest thing is when I arrived, I was younger and had a lot of energy and always wanted to go forward but what I’ve learned is that sometimes you need to know the moments in the game to be more mature and calm down. It’s something I’ve improved on. We keep improving because we know everyone has the quality to play – if you want to play you need to be on point every time. We push each other in a healthy way and that makes us improve every day.”
Doku’s journey at Manchester City has been marked by significant personal and professional growth. The Belgian international has not only adapted to the demands of Premier League football but has also embraced changes in his personal life, including getting married. His on-field performances have reflected this maturity, with standout displays such as his contribution in the Manchester derby.
Jeremy Doku further commented: “He’s a machine. He likes to score goals, and he always scores goals – he’s always hungry. It’s his quality too – he’s always had that. I’m not surprised by how he’s been doing. I enjoy the game when most of the time we have the ball – we are a team that dominate and for us as wingers it’s fun when we have the ball and we can attack a lot. Everyone in this team has a goal and an ambition – everyone is motivated to be the best version of themselves.”
Doku’s relationship with teammates, particularly Erling Haaland, has also strengthened. Their developing partnership is becoming a key element of City’s attacking prowess. Doku’s ability to learn and adapt under Guardiola’s guidance is evident in his improved decision-making and tactical awareness on the pitch. As he continues to grow, Doku remains a vital asset for Manchester City, showcasing the potential that the club saw in him upon his arrival.
