Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal’s summer signing Viktor Gyokeres has been making waves at the Emirates Stadium following his high-profile move from Sporting CP. The Swedish international joined the Gunners for an initial fee of £55 million, with potential bonuses adding up to £8.5 million. Despite a promising start, Gyokeres has not found the net since Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on September 13. Nevertheless, his overall performances have been commendable, and he remains a key player in Arsenal’s attacking lineup.
Mikel Arteta said: “I loved it. I absolutely loved how he took it. He went on board and there wasn’t a single moment where he showed frustration. I told him that he was going to get some decisions and some not and he was going to have two or three players around him, but I loved his reaction a lot. The way he handled the situation emotionally and also because he was involved in a lot of dangerous moments. It’s a pity he didn’t score a goal because in my opinion he fully deserved it.”
Gyokeres has scored three goals in the Premier League so far, placing him six goals behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who currently leads the goalscoring charts. Antoine Semenyo follows in second with six goals, while Jaidon Anthony and Igor Thiago are tied with four goals each. Gyokeres’ tally of three goals sees him level with players such as Hugo Ekitike, Richarlison, Nick Woltemade, and Jarrod Bowen. Despite the gap, Gyokeres and Semenyo are considered strong contenders, with odds of 16/1 to finish as the league’s top scorer. Mohamed Salah, with two goals, is priced at 20/1, while Joao Pedro and Ekitike are at 25/1.
Gyokeres said: “It’s been different games. Some games have been tougher – where I couldn’t perform how I wanted. That’s maybe depending on how the game looked. But I had games where I felt very good. So it’s been up and down but overall, I’ve managed to score a few goals and we won most of the games. So it’s been quite a good start, but it could be better.”
Gyokeres is also in the running for the Champions League top goalscorer, with odds of 28/1 according to BOYLE Sports. Kylian Mbappe is the favorite at 2/1, followed by England’s Harry Kane at 9/2. As Arsenal continues their campaign, Gyokeres will be aiming to increase his goal tally and challenge the likes of Haaland and Salah for the prestigious Golden Boot award.
