Martin Odegaard Arsenal
Norway’s head coach, Stale Solbakken, has voiced his frustration and disappointment following the news that team captain Martin Odegaard will miss the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Israel. Odegaard, who is also the captain of Arsenal, suffered an MCL injury during a clash with West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville. As a result, both Arsenal and Norway confirmed that Odegaard will remain in London for treatment during the international break.
Stale Solbakken said: “We have to tweak some plans, and we have done that before. The last time Martin was out, we played a little differently based on who the opponent was. It is clear that the plan we had made will be different. We lose our spokesman, and we have to live with that. Of course, you get angry and upset and those kinds of feelings, but then you quickly get into a mode where you have to think constructively.”
Solbakken further elaborated on the impact of Odegaard’s absence, highlighting the need for the team to adjust their strategies and cope without their key player. Odegaard’s injury is expected to sideline him for weeks rather than months, although Arsenal has not provided a specific timeline for his return. The 26-year-old has been plagued by injuries this season, having recently recovered from a shoulder problem.
In addition to Solbakken’s comments, a Manchester City striker shared his thoughts on the situation.
The Manchester City striker said: “It’s a shame and it’s not good for us. We need him, so I hope it’s not serious. I haven’t spoken to him, but it didn’t look good. We’re going to miss our captain, it’s tough. We just have to do the best we can without Martin.”
Odegaard’s absence is a significant blow for both Norway and Arsenal, as he plays a crucial role in both teams’ setups. His leadership and playmaking abilities will be sorely missed, and both teams will need to adapt to his absence in the coming weeks.
