Bernardo Silva
Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has confirmed that he has made a decision regarding his future at the club, with less than a year remaining on his contract. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his long-term plans, Silva remains committed to leading Manchester City back to the pinnacle of European football. Appointed as captain by Pep Guardiola this season, Silva has embraced the leadership role, especially after the departures of key figures like Kyle Walker and the injury struggles of Kevin De Bruyne.
Bernardo Silva said: “I know exactly what I’m going to do but it’s not the time to talk about it. It’s time to focus on Man City, to try to do my best to try to put the club back where it belongs. We know that we’ve had a lot of captains who have left in the past but it’s the guys who have the most experience to pass it to the young guys and hopefully they will be the next ones to pass that experience. I’m focused on doing a proper season with Man City and doing as well as possible to perform and bring back the team to the level it deserves to be.”
“My job now is to try to create that energy and chemistry back as a group of captains, so people behave in the right way in training and games, arrive early, train properly, take care of themselves. That’s our job but in terms of responsibility you need more than just one or two or three. We were really good in the past because we had 10 or 15 players like that that behaved as captains and that’s what you need,” Silva added.
Silva’s comments highlight his commitment to the team’s immediate goals, particularly in the Champions League, where Manchester City aims to avoid the disappointment of last season’s early exit. With a crucial match against Monaco on the horizon, Silva’s leadership is seen as vital in guiding the team to success. His role as captain is not just about wearing the armband but fostering a culture of professionalism and accountability within the squad. Silva’s influence is crucial as he works to instill the values of discipline and unity, which have been the hallmark of Manchester City’s past successes.
Despite the speculation about his future, Silva’s focus remains firmly on the present, ensuring that Manchester City competes at the highest level. His leadership, both on and off the pitch, will be instrumental as the club navigates the challenges of the current season.
